Did You Know You Can Buy A House In Japan?

Yes, even if you’re not Japanese. Yes, even if you’re not a resident. You can even buy a house on a tourist visa and have full property ownership rights. It’s a well-kept secret.

Japan is one of the best, underrated places in the world to own a vacation home for a few reasons: it’s incredibly cheap to buy a house; property taxes are low; and maybe most important: it’s such a lovely place to spend your vacation time!

About Us

Hi, I’m Ray, and welcome to JapanVacationHomes.com

My Japan adventure began in late 2024 when I took the plunge and bought my very first property on a remote Japanese island in Okayama Prefecture. I fell in love with Japan at an early age, growing up watching Studio Ghibli classics such as My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. After being priced out of a property market where the average home cost $680,000, I decided to purchase my very first home in Japan for just over $ 5,000. This year, I purchased two more homes on Innoshima, an island in Onomichi located on the Shimanami Kaido.

As someone who has purchased multiple properties in Japan, I understand what it takes to buy, restore, and own property here. To me, it isn’t just about buying a cheap house but about using your own creative ideas, passion, and sweat equity to restore and bring life back to older homes. My mission is to help revive and support rural communities across Japan while making the path easier for other foreigners. I created this website as a resource hub to help you learn how to find and purchase your very own dream home in Japan.
